Oakland residents showing love!

Feed The Hood

While some people were gearing up for the Super Bowl, over 300 people throughout Oakland,CA came out on February 4, 2018 to show love and support at the Feed the Hood event hosted by The East Oakland Collective. As SONSON® is based in Oakland, CA, we decided to show up and support this great initiative by donating hygiene products as well as stuffing care bags for the homeless.

Homelessness is a sad epidemic affecting many cities. Unfortunately, homelessness in Oakland has grown by more than 25% over the past two years. African-Americans make up 28% of Oakland’s population, but account for 70% of the homeless population, who are mainly located on deep East Oakland. The fiber of deep East Oakland is one of many that make up the fabric and rich culture of Oakland--a culture that members of EOC are working hard to preserve, sustain and support.

The East Oakland Collective is a member-based community organized group. They are invested in serving the communities of East Oakland by working towards racial and economic equity. As our brands mantra is all about building relationships from “one son to another”, coming out to support our community and The East Oakland Collective was the right thing to do.
